QUNO NY Joins SDG 16+ Campaign focused on peace

QUNO NY UN Representative Kavita Desai is co-chairing the peace working group of the 2024 SDG16+ Campaign. QUNO is a Member of the Transparency, Accountability, and Participation (TAP) Network, an international coalition of over 300+ civil society organizations working towards SDG 16 and the 2030 Agenda through advocacy and collaboration.

QUNO NY Launches UN-Civic Space Research

QUNO NY gathered civil society representatives together for an intimate discussion on inclusion and participation at the UN on August 14th. The discussion centered around QUNO’s draft paper analyzing the current state of civic space at the UN and how agreed language from UN resolutions and past momentum for greater inclusion can be used.

International Solidarity with Palestine Solidifies at the Outset of the 79th Session of the General Assembly

On 17 September, the UN General Assembly convened for an emergency session to consider a resolution calling for the implementation of this summer’s opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, which focused on Israeli settlements and called for their withdrawal.

QUNO NY joins panel on ‘Mobilizing Civil Society for Sustainable Peace in the Age of Crisis’

While world leaders convened at the United Nations for the opening of the General Assembly, across the street at the UN Church Center civil society also gathered at the Global People’s Assembly to share experiences, strategize and mobilize in the face of growing global crises.

QUNO NY Joins SDG16 Webinar Ahead of the 4th Conference on Financing for Development

Kavita Desai, QUNO NY UN Representative, joined the Transparency, Accountability, and Participation (TAP) Network’s ‘Financing for Development Strategy Workshop-Webinar’ and led a small group discussion. During the small group discussion participants explored priorities for the TAP Network and SDG16+ community during the ongoing UN Financing for Development process.

QUNO NY joins discussion on the promise of world peace

QUNO NY Representative Kavita Desai joined a panel discussion entitled “Promise of World Peace: A Coherent Approach to Peace and Security” on February 7th. Hosted by the Bahá’í International Community (BiC) and the Permanent Mission of Portugal to the United Nations, the discussion focused on the UN General Assembly Revitalization process that makes recommendations on the functioning of the UN System, such as coordination among UN principal organs, rules of procedure, and accessibility.

QUNO Geneva Peace & Disarmament Programme at the 58th Session of the Human Rights Council

QUNO Geneva’s Peace and Disarmament programme delivered a statement during the General Debate on Agenda Item 3 at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council to welcome OHCHR’s most recent report on the negative human rights impacts of arms transfers (A/HRC/58/41). The statement was delivered by Yvette Issar, Peace and Disarmament Programme Consultant.

QUNO and the TAP Network react to the UN Financing for Development Process

Through our membership of the Transparency, Accountability & Participation (TAP) Network, QUNO NY has been engaging in the process towards the United Nations (UN) Fourth Financing for Development Conference (FfD4). The FfD4 process aims to create a global policy agenda that will renew the international financing framework, unlock capital flows and build on previous financing agreements.

QUNO hosts SDG 16 Community Gathering

Grounded in partnership for a peaceful, just, and inclusive world, QUNO NY collaborated with the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (CSPPS) and the Transparency, Accountability and Participation (TAP) Network to convene civil society representatives around the UNs Sustainable Development Goal 16, also known as the ‘peace goal’.
