QUNO NY joins Peace Game Pilot
QUNO NY joined a Northeast Asia Peace Games simulation at the Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia on December 3rd. The Peace Game was organized through a partnership between the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC).
The simulation took place in a fictional future in the year 2030. On the 30th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325, UN Women, in collaboration with regional actors, launched a bold new initiative that aims to draft a regional action plan for UNSCR 1325. A working group of government and civil society delegates from the region will gather for the Northeast Asia Women, Peace, and Security Summit. At the request of UN Women, Beijing has agreed to host this summit.
The half-day Peace Game provided university students and civil society practitioners with an interactive and experiential learning opportunity, related to both multilateral negotiations and peace in the context of Northeast Asia. The Peace Game was a fun and engaging way to work with young people interested in peace studies and peacebuilding at the community and international levels. It also provided an opportunity for the participants to better understand the geopolitics that often slow down progress toward peace and the need for more peace-focused diplomacy and investment in the prevention of conflicts.
QUNO NY enjoyed the opportunity to join the Northeast Asia Peace Games simulation and looks forward to participating in future simulations with our partners.
