Climate-Sensitive Lens

Complimenting the work of our colleagues in Geneva, QUNO NY has begun to highlight the critical nature of adopting a climate-sensitive lens when analyzing conflict and working for peace.

While climate change doesn’t directly cause conflict, it can:

• Exacerbate existing tensions
• Weaken governance or state capacity
• Intensify competition over scarce natural resources
• Increase displacement, which may create new or amplify existing grievances.

Climate-sensitive analysis supports climate-informed peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
