Geneva Governance

The Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO) in Geneva has existed for over 40 years. Both the QUNO New York and Geneva Offices have special status at the United Nations through Friends World Committee for Consultation.

Until 1998, QUNO Geneva was entirely funded and governed by Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM), under the oversight of Quaker Peace & Service (later Quaker Peace & Social Witness) Central Committee. In 1998, a new committee was set up with the aim of broadening the 'ownership' of QUNO work among Quakers across the world, and also providing a forum for Quaker concerns from around the world to influence the direction and priorities of the QUNO Geneva work. The Committee has 5 members appointed by Quaker Peace & Social Witness Central Committee (QPSW CC), and 5 nominated by Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) Executive Committee and Sections.

This Committee sets the priorities for the work, and evaluates and monitors the work, reporting to the two parent bodies once a year. It meets twice a year, once in Geneva, once in the UK.
